The Newspaper Education Trust has received both national and international recognition for the work that it has done over the last five years:

On 29 March 2006, saw the launch of our blog on The NET. What's a 'blog'? A blog is like an online diary where you can write your comments, opinions and suggestions about our project. Click on the 'blog' link at the top of this page.

On 21 March 2006, After the launch of the national writing competition, three young journalists from Newham were the winners - well done newshounds!
They spent the morning at the editorial offices of 'The Independent' before trying their hand at being journalists themselves.
As a result of their afternoon with us, we are launching a Year 6 programme for Gifted and Talented children, in September 2006.

On 15 March 2006, Fay and Anna went to the Stationer's Career Day at Stationers' Hall. Students and teachers who'd entered a national design competition through PrintIT!, came to meet representatives from the print industry and find out about career opportunites within the industry. The NET took part in the event, and as a result of talking to teachers will be launching a new Graphics Design programme, as part of their GCSE Design Technology coursework, in September 2006.

In February 2006, Twofour Productions teamed up with The Media Trust to make a short film about our charity. The young stars for the day were pupils who had visited when they were at Clara Grant Primary School. The film will be shown on the Community Channel soon! Watch this space....

In November 2005, Carolyn O'Grady, freelance reporter for the TES, made a return visit to The NET after 9 years, to report on our progress, and students from Waltham Forest College who were with us for the day. The Urban Hype was the magazine being designed by the team. Simon Das, tutor, commented, 'However much you talk about it there is nothing like producing a magazine in a real industrial setting, not a college. ...they had a great sense of achievement when it was finally printed.'

In September 2005, Anna spoke to over 50 delegates at the Norske Skog Golf Conference, in Portugal

In September 2003, Anna spoke at the fifth International World Association of Newspapers Conference in Helsinki. Over 300 publishers, editors, chief editors and marketing staff from 47 countries attended the four day conference. In addition to the school programme at The NET, the focus of the presentation was to show ways in which funders were approached and how funders were sought.

In April 1999, the project was accepted as a laureate of the Computerworld Smithsonian Awards permanent archive research collection. The NET was selected as one of 470 projects worldwide and was one of 11 from 21 selected from the UK to go through.

In 1997, The NET was the winner of the 'Aim High' Award for London In 1998, The NET was the Winner of the Business Category, 'Londoner of the Year' award sponsored by London Electricity.

In 1996, The NET received the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership Award for 'outstanding contribution to education'

In 1996 and 1997, The NET was shortlisted for the 'Dragon Awards' for 'business involvement in the community'

Although there are many 'Journalists for a day' projects around the world, The NET is unique in that it is funded by a group of companies, not a sole newspaper, and that it is a charitable trust with altruistic aims.
